Beach Scum + BIG SURe dude!

About a year and a half ago I was living in California and had a sudden change in the aspirations in my life. It was apparent that I wasn’t going to stay in California for the rest of my life. While out there I met a group of amazing friends who I would consider family. I still keep in contact with them and have received many letters from them this past year. We always talk about reconnecting in the future. Also it was how I got the nickname sure dude and we would run around skating, drinking beer, throwing shit in a bonfire on the beach, run naked through the fires, surf, bbq, watch gary busey flicks, Yell BEACHSCUM and SUREDUDE, Food stamps, tag up bathrooms, all cuddle up in one bed, breaking shit, get kicked out of Billy O’s, Zoey’s and art communities, chill at scum spot, hide wills leopard skin pants, paint, hot tub at scott soens house and play with his cat, learn how to fix a flat tire, build beer castles, empty bags of sand from our pants, shred, Birdfeeder shows, More bird feeder shows, dead cats, brats, franklin for short, The Growlers, Deek Alypse, Love birds, Edward Sharpe, Dans truck, never going to sleep, waking up jrrr or at least trying to, water fight in jrr’s kitchen, Will.i.am with an axe, will.i.ams karate, will.i.ams cat, Dan going to jail, Dans bad luck, trumpets on the beach, 4 loko, confirming Dane Reynolds actually eats food, the day I introduced Jrrr to dane, dane blowin out his tail, someone eating my goddamn burger, fuckin with Anne, bbqs in the camper, Wayne’s World breaking the dvd player, 50+ times watching Modern collective, not gettin a life, ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…. Our time was short lived and I happened to stumbled upon some videos we made while hanging out. Especially this Big Sur trip Dan, J.r. and I took before leaving to Hawaii. Who knew it would be the last time I would be in California, at least for awhile. I do miss you all of you Beachscum and hope we can tell our story some time soon. SUREDUDE!

The Growlers + 7th Ave. Minneapolis, MN

For some time while living in California I thought that I would never see a show by Costa Mesa based band The Growlers.
I remember after listening to albums with my beachscum friends that this band really shaped the group of these individuals.
So as soon as the band had added a Minnesota show to their trip I had no other option but to attend. Watching the Growlers was
everything and then some of how I expected them to perform. Different, Loud, Catchy, Humorous and drunk. Who could have asked for more. I had a chance to chat with Brooks Nielsen and discuss Videos, future tour plans, Ventura <california where I had spent some of the best years of my life, some how talked about Dane Reynolds tearin in up and the vision of the growlers.
We might be encountering some of the last real rock n rollers of our time, with a huge underground following who knows
what the future hold for them. Check out there music at:

Mountain Man March Day 13

I moved away from home out to Cali about 3 years ago. I have traveled to Hawaii for a bit and currently reside in St. Paul. Over the years I have met some amazing people and continue to do so today. Life is an amazing gift that some take for granted. I appreciate each day I wake up because sending a positive and loving message out to the world is something I truly enjoy. With all of the terror and destruction in this world going on today, I feel myself missing my friends and family. Knowing everyone is okay makes my heart grow. I am grateful to have to people in my life that have gotten me to this point sitting on my bed meditating. This video was one of the songs I had listened to on my travels and realize that it is very hard to be away from everyone. I have no regrets in my life and the path I am on is a great one, who knows where I’ll end up next. So this is for everyone letting you know that I cherish you all. Great songs for mounatin man march as well.

With a future in sight
A painful glow
Picturing you back with me
Now back to reality
The street feeling the weight of a thousand weeping lives
Punishing their support
seeking lower with our highs
Gaze at the eyes that look down
Waiting for the moments
We found, so profound

When Im up Im so low
When Im here Im not there
When we hurt i don’t care
Trust me I can’t even amaze myself

With all the love u gave
Hard not to behave
Like children
Take the emotional toys
Spread this mess
Take these emotional joys
And arrest this dress

I watch a thousand crows Find room to perch in this cold heat
I watch a thousand flakes fall from so high up
I watch myself move forward and look back
But catch my feet

….

I used to get on Dane Reynolds blog like my life depended on it. One thing that was annoying is he would never title his blog post. He would just dable a few dots. Lazy bastard. I remember my buddy J.R. watson and I would cruise up and down the coast looking to see if we could catch this dude surfing. My only experience seeing dane was at a pizza place in Ventura, CA. Up until that point I had suspected Dane of not having time to eat. I figured he was constantly surfing every second of every single day. J.R. on the other hand, had made a cool surf video with music from local denver friends Paper Bird. So to Dane and my great friend J.R. I give you a great big SURE DUDE!
